Bat Mitzvah

A Jewish girl becomes Bat Mitzvah at the age of twelve. Bat Mitzvah means "Daughter of the Commandments". In Progressive synagogues, there is no difference between the services held for boys and girls.

Not all synagogues have a special service for girls. If there is one, it is held on a Sunday rather than on Shabbat. Girls do not read from the Torah in an Orthodox synagogue.
